A long film summer is about to begin, full of open-air cinema experiences prepared by Kinoatelje together with numerous partners across the wider cross-border area. The traveling Kino Soča – Isonzo Cinema will come to life, with its first stop, as is tradition, at the Štandrež Open-Air Cinema. On June 19 and 20, Kinoatelje and the Oton Župančič Cultural Association will inaugurate the season for the eighth year in a row at the Andrej Budal Cultural Center, gathering the community under the glow of the film projector. In case of bad weather, the screenings will take place inside the Cultural Center.

Series Slovenians in Belgrade: Edvard Rusjan, 10 min

The Aviation Museum at Belgrade Airport holds a unique treasure: a fragment of the wing of the plane with which Slovenian Edvard Rusjan made the first flight over Belgrade in 1911. This exhibit is further proof of the brotherhood of Slavic nations at the beginning of the 20th century, clearly expressed in the farewell words of Branislav Nušić at the Belgrade grave of the Slovenian Icarus.

In the Silent Valley, dir. Vladimir Šojat, 2024, 20 min

Meet Cvetka, who was brought to Vojvodina as a little girl in a bread-kneading trough on a wagon with a wave of colonists from Slovenia. In the village of Gudurica, on the slopes of the Vršac hill, her family, together with many other settlers, began a new life in an area that would shape her destiny in an unusual way.

Series Tracing Slovenians Around the World – For Bread, Dorica Makuc & Mija Janžekovič, 1987, 30 min

The so-called Spring of Nations brought no spring for most Slovenians. Despite the abolition of feudal obligations, the social position of the peasantry worsened, many farms were sold, and peasants increasingly became exploited proletarians – both at home and abroad, where some found their fortune but many did not. This remarkable documentary about an overlooked but essential historical period reveals the causes, course, and consequences of the first great migration of the Slovenian nation.

Organized by Kinoatelje and the Oton Župančič Cultural Association. The screenings are part of the Welcome Home 2025 program. This is the largest gathering of Slovenians from abroad, the world and the homeland so far, taking place between June 13 and July 3 in Nova Gorica and Gorizia within the framework of the European Capital of Culture. With the support of the Government Office for Slovenians Abroad and umbrella organizations, the event will offer a diverse program of exhibitions, concerts, conferences and meetings aimed at connecting compatriots from all continents.

Praslovan Feature documentary, 2024, Slovenia, Croatia

Stories you already know. You can dig them up online, read them in magazines. But Zoran Predin is not only that. He is much more. In his 40-year career, many events occurred that only he and the people who were present at the time remember. Stories waiting to be revealed.

The Traveling Cinema Soča - Isonzo Cinema, which has been running since 2024, establishes open-air cinemas in picturesque locations along the border, in collaboration with key partners from the region. The event is part of the Go Green Cinema project, which addresses a wider cross-border audience, local residents, occasional foreign visitors and participants within the official program of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025.

It is supported by the European Union through the Small Projects Fund GO! 2025 of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 program, managed by EGTC GO.
