WORKSHOP LIGHTING GUERRILLA
Flash Art - LIQUID LIGHT & ARCHITECTURAL MAPPING with Overhead Projectors The workshop, led by artists Laurenz Theinert & Andrej Štular (Forum Ljubljana/Strip Core), is dedicated to exploring the world of analogue light and projection techniques and exploring the creative possibilities offered by overhead projectors. The focus will be on liquid light and analogue architectural mapping, two experimental approaches that allow for direct and tactile experimentation with light, matter, movement and space. On the final evening, the final installation of the works will be created in the form of Flash Art, open to the public.
Following the success of previous editions of the Art&Puppets project, the CTA in Gorizia is offering sixteen young people over the age of 18 the opportunity to participate in a free three-day workshop.
The workshop, held by Laurenz Theinert & Andrej Štular (Forum Ljubljana/Strip Core) at the UNG - Art Academy of the University of Nova Gorica and at the Coronini Foundation (former stables) in Gorizia, will culminate in the creation of a Flash Art installation, with a public screening on the evening of Saturday, April 11. In this workshop, we will immerse ourselves in the world of analogue light and projection techniques and explore creative possibilities with overhead projectors.
The focus will be on liquid light and analogue architectural mapping – two experimental approaches that allow light, material, movement and space to be experienced directly and haptically. Based on the liquid light technique that emerged in the 1960s, we will work with glass plates, coloured liquids, oils and pigments. By mixing, layering and moving, we will create live moving light images with organic forms, flowing structures and surprising colour spaces.
Each projection is unique and ephemeral – an interplay of control and chance.
Building on this, we transfer the analogue projections onto the space itself. We analyse the existing architecture and develop space-related projections using transparencies, masks, stencils, drawings and objects. Shapes, edges and surfaces are specifically illuminated and transformed into living light images through superimposition, movement and manual animation, reinterpreting the space.
The workshop teaches basic techniques for working with overhead projectors, light sources and materials, as well as an understanding of light, colour, transparency, movement and spatial perception. The focus is on collaborative experimentation and an open creative process.
Finally, the resulting works will be displayed in a joint presentation.
