When did screens steal our attention, and how do we get it back?

When did screens steal our attention, and how do we get it back?

How to disconnect ourselves from the devices? And how to disconnect our children in the times of so-called digital transformation, when they naturally also need to be connected from time to time?

When weighing between being connected or disconnected, it is not just about children – it is about all of us who have fallen deeply into our screens and begun to transform as a society. In recent years, we have been faced with a general digitisation of public and private spaces and a flood of so-called “smart” devices, i.e. phones, computers, televisions, refrigerators, boilers, cookers, pencils and many other more or less smart things.

The workshop draws attention to the problems of information overload in the era of so-called digital transformation, when people increasingly rely on technological solutions both at work and in their free time, forgetting about the people around them.

The facilitators will highlight key distractions, from smartphones to e-mails, which steal attention and disrupt focus in both young people and adults. They will explain how to distinguish between sensible and excessive use of technology, present options for disconnecting from screens, and provide recommendations for regaining focus and concentration.

Workshop led by Dan Podjed (ZRC SAZU) and Lilijana Šprah (ZRC SAZU).
