The torments of Poseidon

The torments of Poseidon

The Torments of Poseidon, a scientific/artistic exhibition-event curated by the GLOBE ITALIA APS Association. The exhibition's theme is the emergency posed by the growing presence of microplastics in the environment, particularly in water.

From February 23 to 28, 2026, the exhibition-event will be open to the public with a companion exhibition in Cervignano del Friuli at the Casa della Musica, a new venue in the region. The exhibition is intended to educate and is divided into several sections illustrating the life cycle of microplastics, from their origin to their accumulation in the environment and the food chain. It presents the current state of scientific knowledge for quantifying the phenomenon and its impacts on ecosystems and health, as well as potential innovations and mitigation strategies.

Visitors are welcomed into an immersive environment and guided through graphics, image galleries, videos, installations, artworks, and testimonials from ongoing local and international research. They will also be able to experience, through workshops, the phases of the Microplastics Monitoring Protocol (MMP), developed by researchers at Deakin University. The exhibition's curator, GLOBE ITALIA APS, has been helping to implement MMP in schools and universities around the world since 2021. The project has trained over 700 teachers to monitor the presence of microplastics in water bodies, raising awareness among students and citizens about this environmental emergency.

FOR SCHOOLS: Guided workshop tours are available by reservation for schools of all levels. Visit duration: approximately 2 hours.
