The Silent Storm

La Tempesta Silenziosa

The pleasure of reading alone and not alone. An idea by Alessandro Baricco. Scenofonia by Roberto Tarasco.

A theater room, a DJ with his set, a single book for all participants.

These are the key points of the evening conceived by Alessandro Baricco, a Silent Storm where a small community reads the same book, at the same time and in the same place in absolute silence – except for the stage set by the DJ.

During the Tempesta, participants can read, underline, take notes, and jot down thoughts on their own copy of the book, which they will then exchange with another reader at a time of their choosing during the evening.

Once you've finished reading, you can go out and meet up and talk, in a non-silent storm that will pollinate the entire neighborhood.

But what book will we read? “I chose White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky for a quote: Two minutes and you made me happy forever.

Those who read, who love books, generally have a problematic relationship with happiness.

Apparently it was not given to them as an option.

So they have to go looking for it.

I wanted a book that would bring it to her.

I have set rules for the silent storm because I believe it is, in a secular and light-hearted way, a ritual: then the precise step of a few rules can encounter freedom and build a path.”
