The Intelligence of Poetry

The Intelligence of Poetry. Reflections, Readings, Music Meeting with historical and literary interventions, readings of poems in Italian and Slovenian, music on the accordion.

The iniziative takes inspiration from the re-publication, last year, of the proceedings of the conference on poetry organized in Gorizia by ICM – Institute for Central European Cultural Meetings in 1966.

The proposal has a dual purpose: on one hand, to bring attention back to that distant yet still significant moment, and to the brilliant idea of a group of young intellectuals, politicians, and entrepreneurs who, through a poetry conference, managed to foster dialogue among people across the border; on the other hand, to offer an opportunity to reflect on contemporary reality and encourage a gaze toward the future. 

The question is whether poetry is still capable of expressing such a strong ethical tension and, broadly speaking, politics.

The presence of speakers and readers from both Italy and Slovenia underlines the ever-relevant theme of the border as a permeable and culturally fertile zone, precisely because it is inhabited by diverse sensitivities and perspectives regarding historical events.
