"The Art that Creates Community – Gigi Castellani and the Experience of S. Anna in Gorizia"

Exhibition of works by the artist Gigi Castellani from the 1970s, mainly with religious or socially engaged themes, from April 15 to April 30, 2025, at the exhibition spaces of Kulturni dom – Gorizia.

On Tuesday, April 15 at 6:00 PM, there will be a conference with witnesses from that time to inaugurate the exhibition.

The project consists of collecting some of the works of the artist Gigi Castellani from the 1970s, especially those with religious or social themes, and exhibiting them from April 15 to April 30, 2025, at the exhibition spaces of Kulturni dom – Gorizia. Gigi Castellani's work, both as an artist and as a mentor to other artists, helped a community feel like a community.

His collaboration with Don Alberto Denadai, the parish priest of the Christian community of S. Anna in the 1970s, was expressed through the creation of several works that played an important role in the process of building a community.

The exhibition of the works will be accompanied by captions to help understand the formative value of art during a time of a new part of a city, as S. Anna in Gorizia. The primary goal is to enhance the artistic work of Gigi Castellani, but also to promote interest in the more recent history of the city of Gorizia. The exhibition will begin with a conference with stories of people directly involved in that historical period, helping visitors to engage with the cultural climate of the time.

As part of the Go!2025 program, the exhibition will also be held at the Church of S. Salvatore in Nova Gorica.
