Statehood Day Celebration in Luxembourg with Artists from Goriška Region

Artists from the Gorizia region will perform in Luxembourg on the occasion of Slovenia’s Statehood Day.

The Slovenian Society in Luxembourg will mark this year’s Statehood Day with a special ceremony thematically dedicated to the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia. The event is organized with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Brussels and the Government Office for Slovenians Abroad. As part of the official programme, artists from the Goriška region will present their work at the Foyer européen, the European House in Luxembourg, through an exhibition and a piano recital, followed by a social gathering. The photography exhibition, titled A Balancing Act, is curated by Nataša Kovšca, the curator of the Gong Gallery in Nova Gorica. The piano recital will be performed by Miran Devetak, a pianist from Nova Gorica and a professor at the Sarcelles Conservatory near Paris.

Nataša Kovšca, head of the Gong Gallery in Nova Gorica, is a respected art historian, curator, and lecturer. She focuses on contemporary art and visual culture and is the author of the Photography Glossary for Youth. The group exhibition A Balancing Act presents works by four artists from the cross-border area between Slovenia and Italy—Annibel Cunoldi Attems, Danilo Jejčič, Andrej Perko, and Carlo Vidoni—working in both photography and installation art. The exhibition raises the question of how art can help understand and overcome the challenges of contemporary society, such as the depletion of natural resources, technological overload, and global crises.

Miran Devetak, a pianist from Nova Gorica and professor at the conservatory in Sarcelles, began his musical education at the G. Tartini Conservatory in Trieste. He later continued his studies in Paris, Barcelona, and Belgium under the guidance of renowned professors such as Igor Lazko, Denis Pascal, Luiz de Moura Castro, and Diane Andersen. His concert programme will feature the following works: Three Preludes by Lucijan Marija Škerjanc, Six Trifles by Marij Kogoj, Petrarch Sonnet No. 47 by Franz Liszt, Liszt’s transcription of Schubert’s Sei mir gegrüßt, and the Lullaby and Finale from The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky, arranged for piano by Guido Agosti.
