Different religious traditions, while often referring to the same divine principle or a universal idea of the supernatural, conceive the space above their buildings in profoundly different ways. The ceiling, whether dome, vault, or wooden roof, is never a neutral element: it is a threshold, a physical separation that is erased. It manifests the way each culture imagines the relationship between the human and the divine.

In this tension between closure and openness, between matter and transcendence, the deepest meaning of these "separations from heaven" is realized: not walls that divide, but thresholds that invite us to cross, with our gaze and our spirit, the boundaries of earthly experience.
