SCREENAGERS Vol. 2 - An interactive DIY musical for the digital age

SCREENAGERS Vol. 2 - Interaktivni DIY muzikal digitalne dobe

SCREENAGERS Vol. 2 is an interactive DIY musical for the digital age, combining concert, lecture, performance, and personal narrative. Barbara Matijević takes the audience on a journey through online experiences, exploring what happens to our imaginations, emotions, and relationships when the digital world becomes our living environment. The mobile phone is an integral part of the show: the audience uses it to actively participate, contribute to the creation of content on the big screen, and join in a collective digital game.

SCREENAGERS Vol. 2 An interactive DIY musical for the digital age October 19 at 7:00 PM SNG Nova Gorica, main stage

CELL PHONE USE DURING THE SHOW IS MANDATORY! SCREENAGERS Vol. 2 sits at the intersection of concert, lecture, performance, and personal storytelling—a sort of sung TED Talk, a DIY musical for the digital age.

Barbara Matijević takes the audience on a lyrical, playful, and ironic journey through the world of online experiences and the sensations generated by a life in constant contact with digital content.

What happens to our imaginations, our emotions, and our relationships when the Internet is no longer a place we occasionally visit, but the environment we live in?

The audience also enters the show with their cell phones, which this time are not a distraction, but a theatrical tool.

Through their phones, viewers actively participate, contribute to the creation of content that appears on the big screen and even find themselves together inside a video game.

Drawing on online research, Google queries, digital images, and audience responses, Barbara Matijević creates songs about pain, joy, longing, and those indefinite feelings that are sometimes hard even to name.

On stage, the digital world takes shape through QR codes, chatbots, green screens, music, videos, and a collaborative play with the audience. SCREENAGERS Vol. 2 neither condemns nor celebrates the internet.

With a touch of humor and no moralizing, he asks the question of what happens to our psyche and collective imagination in a world traversed by an endless stream of online content—and why, despite it all, we keep scrolling.

The play has been performed at theaters and festivals in Croatia, Serbia, Portugal, Germany, France, Romania, Slovenia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Albania, and Montenegro. The play is in English. Recommended age: 14+.
