Opening of the Museo Civico del Tesoro di Grado

The Civic Museum of the Treasure of Grado will open on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 11 a.m. featuring unique pieces that span nearly two thousand years of the lagoon town’s history.

The Museum, located in the former Rectory building at Via della Corte 8 (Piazza Biagio Marin), houses artifacts dating from the 2nd to the 18th century.

Among the most valuable items are two silver capsellae that once contained the relics of the Aquileian martyrs, and a fragment of the True Cross, sent as a gift to the Patriarch of Grado by Emperor Heraclius in 630 AD. The Museum, dedicated to Monsignor Sebastiano Tognon, the archpriest who safeguarded the Basilica's Treasure during the First World War, is the result of an agreement between the Municipality of Grado and the Parish of Sant’Eufemia, endorsed by the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for Friuli Venezia Giulia.
