Opening of the Exhibition Silk Miniatures in Solkan

Textile technologists and designers from the University of Ljubljana are exploring flat cocooning, where silkworms are allowed to move freely according to their natural behavior. You will be able to see a demonstration of the cocooning process and an exhibition of artistic works.

The project group of textile technologists and designers from the University of Ljubljana is exploring an innovative process of flat cocooning, in which silkworms are allowed to move naturally. In doing so, they create a usable textile web and still retain enough strength to wrap themselves into a cocoon, where they pupate and transform into moths. What remains are empty cocoons that, after degumming, become a valuable raw material for the production of fine silk yarns. This unique process enables the coexistence of natural life cycles and contemporary textile technology.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on 23 June 2025 at 18:00 at the Solkan Local Community Center.
