Nature Workshop: Parks and Gardens – The Hidden Life Around Us
We invite you to participate in the nature workshop "Parks and gardens – the hidden life around us," organized as part of the GOmini project. The workshop is organized by the University of Primorska (University of the Littoral) in operational collaboration with the Estplore guides.
How much "nature" is really hidden in our urban parks and carefully tended gardens? How many of the plant and animal species that live there do we know how to recognize?
Which ones did we introduce intentionally and which ones arrived spontaneously? And are all the species we find in our gardens truly welcome?
During the nature walk in the Rafut Park, we will explore the environment through the eyes of real nature detectives.
We will look for tracks, feathers, pellets, fur, and other clues that can help us discover which animals live in this green corner, even when we cannot observe them directly.
During the exploration, we will also use digital microscopes, which will allow us to observe up close small organisms and interesting details of plants and other natural materials that often escape the naked eye.
In this way, we will also be able to discover the less visible inhabitants and the hidden details of life in parks and gardens.
Next, we will focus on plants and go on a "hunt" for non-native species.
We will get to know some of them and discover where they come from and how they arrived in our environment.
We will also try to understand what impact they can have on native species and why some non-native species can become problematic.
Through exploration, we will discover that parks and gardens are not only spaces intended for people, but important habitats for numerous plant and animal species.
In these environments, native and non-native species, humans and nature meet, and their interactions can bring both benefits and new challenges to the organisms.
The workshop will offer the opportunity to observe a familiar environment from a different perspective and to discover the hidden biodiversity that surrounds us even in places where we might least expect it.
Since the workshop will take place outdoors, we recommend appropriate clothing and footwear for moving in nature.
The workshop will be held in Slovenian and Italian.
