MERLETTI - lace threads that unite

LACE THREADS THAT UNITE Born from the collaboration between the Institut Valdôtain de l’Artisanat de tradition, through the MAV, and the ERPAC, the exhibition will introduce visitors to the ancient art of bobbin lace or dentelles through the comparison of two regions, Cogne and Gorizia, which - although geographically distant - share some important historical and socio-cultural similarities.

The exhibition will compare Gorizia lace, precious contemporary works born from the study and evolution of an ancient tradition, with another excellence in bobbin lacemaking, Dentelles de Cogne, a meticulous workmanship that has long been handed down by heart and which makes tradition a cultural and identity-building mission.

The bobbin lace traditions of the two cultures share a common origin: the religious context from which they both originated, the Benedictine nuns of Cluny and the Ursulines. They also share a bordering location, making them a crossroads of encounters and the setting for historical events.

In both places, cultural peculiarities have revitalized the tradition, but have led to different creative approaches. The exhibition will be open to visitors at the Showroom Merletto Goriziano in GORIZIA from October 24th to December 1st, from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 15:30 p.m. to 19:30 pm.
