Ingress is a location-based AR game where players from both factions, the Illuminati and the Resistance, compete to control “Portals” at real-world locations.

Ingress, developed by Niantic, is a location-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game that transforms the real world into a global science fiction battlefield.

Players join one of two Factions—the Enlightened or the Resistance—and use their mobile devices to discover and interact with “Portals,” which are often public works of art, monuments, or historical sites.

The main objective is to control these Portals and connect them to form Control Fields on real-world territory, claiming Mental Units (MUs) for your Faction in an ongoing global struggle.

An Ingress Mission Day and a First Saturday are two distinct types of community-run Ingress events that encourage agents from both factions to explore the city and interact with the game. Ingress First Saturday (FS) is a social and competitive event involving both factions, typically held on the first Saturday of the month.

Officers typically gather at a check-in point, where they record starting stats such as AP and distance traveled.

They then have a set period of time, usually two hours, to play, focusing on gaining AP and distance traveled.

Finally, they meet again to record final stats, socialize, and often participate in a group photo and post-event gathering. It's a great opportunity to level up and meet local agents. Ingress Mission Day (MD), on the other hand, is an official Niantic event focused on exploration and tourism.

To complete it, agents must complete a specified number of unique, pre-designed “Missions”—which are guided paths that require hacking a sequence of Portals—designed to showcase points of interest in Gorizia.

By completing the required missions within the event timeframe, agents qualify for a special in-game medal.
