GIRAFFE TO GIRAFFE – Conversations at a Higher Level / An exhibition of postcards, dialogues and glimpses of Gotropolis 2022–2025

Giraffes have accompanied Gotropolis since its inception in 2022. For the fifth edition, 48 short and ironic dialogues between giraffes are brought together for the first time, along with fragments from the first four years of Gotropolis.

The exhibition is both an archive and a space for participation: visitors can choose from the dialogues, react, and take their favorite postcard home with them. The exhibition remains, while the giraffes' dialogues continue their journey.

Giraffes have accompanied Gotropolis since its birth in 2022.

For each of the first four editions, twelve postcards were created with new short and ironic dialogues inspired by that year's theme.

For the fifth edition of Gotropolis, we're bringing them all together for the first time: 48 conversations between giraffes that form a playful archive of the festival's first four years.

Visitors can flag the dialogues that continue to speak to them and take their favorite postcard home with them.

The exhibition remains, while the giraffes' conversations continue their journey – in wallets, between the pages of books, on refrigerators, in the mail, and around the world.

WHY A GIRAFFE? The giraffe is the symbol of Gotropolis: an animal that, thanks to its height, can see further and observe the world with a certain detachment, from a different perspective.

But it also has a very special connection with Nova Gorica.

King Charles X of France, who spent the last years of his life in Gorizia and is buried in Kostanjevica, received a giraffe as a diplomatic gift in 1827.

Young Zarafa, on her journey to Paris, became a true European sensation and sparked a veritable "giraffomania": giraffes appeared in fashion, art, and popular culture. Nearly two hundred years later, giraffes have also found their place in Gotropolis. Now they continue their journey.
