"From Aquileia to Gorizia: The Treasure of the Archdiocese"

The European Capital of Culture is enriched with a new exhibition: “From Aquileia to Gorizia.

The Treasure of the Archdiocese”, which will display over 200 works, including precious and ancient sacred art objects from the treasury of the Patriarchate of Aquileia (the ancient institution suppressed in 1751 by Pope Benedict XIV, from which the dioceses of Gorizia and Udine arose), liturgical vestments, very rare medieval antiphonaries, paintings, large-format engravings, musical instruments, manuscripts of significant historical importance, and rare books.

The main cultural institutions of Gorizia and the region will contribute their own loans to the exhibition. The display of these precious materials will trace, in a nutshell, the centuries-old history of the Patriarchate of Aquileia.

The exhibition is curated by Alessio Persic of the Catholic University of Milan, and directed by Marino De Grassi.
