Everything was possible

Everything was possible

Everything was possible is the final performance of the three-year project Season of Gathering Stories, developed by the Scaramouche Institute under the artistic direction of Tereza Gregorič as part of the official GO! 2025 programme.

The creative team collected more than 70 testimonies from people who have lived and still live along the Slovenian-Italian border and created a comedy that tackles various topics in an entertaining way, including controversial or even fatal issues, problems and phenomena that have had a decisive impact on the social and economic situation of individuals and communities. The stories of ordinary people, often overlooked by official history (some of which have been transcribed for the first time as part of the project), offer an in-depth insight into the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the coastal region and, through humour, engage the audience and invite them to reflect. The authors explore the continuity and tradition of Mediterranean comedy and its archetypal characters, who, through the comic representation of individual situations, open up space for critical reflection and subversion.

Everything was possible is a comedy born from life on the border. The authors enrich the documentary material with an artistic treatment that emphasises the comic dimensions of serenity and humour, which already in the testimonies themselves reveal themselves to be faithful companions of the regional “spirit”. At the same time, they explore the continuity and tradition of Mediterranean comedy and its archetypal characters, who in the performance Everything was possible are confronted with contemporary approaches to theatre. The season of collecting stories brought with it an awareness of the immense vital energy and ingenuity for survival that the coastal region has demonstrated throughout history. In this context, comedy plays a fundamental role for theatre, as it is precisely through the comic representation of individual situations that space is opened up for critical reflection and subversion.
