Dorotea Dolinšek: Biosymbiotic Exoskeleton

The Biosymbiotic Exoskeleton is an inflatable suit that enables symbiotic coexistence with organisms that make up the human microbiome in extreme extraterrestrial conditions.

On Wednesday, 30 July 2025, at 19:30, Xcenter will host the opening of the Biosymbiotic Exoskeleton exhibition by Dorotea Dolinšek.

The Biosymbiotic Exoskeleton exhibition presents an inflatable suit that enables symbiotic coexistence with microbes, fungi, archaea, and viruses—organisms that make up the human microbiome—in extreme extraterrestrial conditions. The project speculatively explores the possibilities of survival beyond Earth, where the human body breaks down into functionalities and connects in a rhizomatic relationship with other species. Through this process, the body is transformed into a new system, where the microbiome becomes a vital organ, the maintenance of which is crucial for survival. The project touches on both personal intimacy and broader ecological issues, offering a reflection on new living conditions based on care, interspecies connectivity, and the radical transformation of the human body.

The project was produced by Ars Electronica as part of the European Media Art Platform (EMAP) and co-produced by the Kersnikova Institute – Kapelica Gallery as part of GO! 2025 official programme.
