TRIESTE TARTINI ENSEMBLE Pietro MILELLA – oboa Davide TEODORO – klarinet Andrea CARETTA – rog Sergio LAZZERI – fagot Reana DE LUCA – klavir
The quintet for piano and wind instruments – comprising oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon with piano – is one of the most refined chamber music combinations in the classical tradition.
Originating in Vienna in the 1780s, this ensemble offers a unique combination of timbres: whilst the wind instruments form a homogeneous quartet, they possess distinct and complementary timbres, whilst the piano, far from playing the role of a soloist, provides the structural framework, the harmonic fabric and acts as a mediating element between the various voices.
Listening to the three quintets in succession allows one to appreciate the evolution of Viennese Classicism: from Witt’s communicative clarity, through Mozart’s formal perfection, to the pre-Romantic tension of the young Beethoven.
