A TRIBUTE TO HENRY MANCINI – MUSIC, CINEMA, TELEVISION AND HUMOUR FOR A LARGE ORCHESTRA
SHIPYARD BIG BAND Maestro Flavio DAVANZO – conductor Stefano DONGETTI – presenter
A fascinating, rhythmic and captivating journey into the genius of Henry Mancini, the composer who revolutionised the world of film scores, bringing the energy of jazz and refined swing to the big screen in Hollywood and to American television.
From cinematic masterpieces such as *The Pink Panther*, *Moon River* (*Breakfast at Tiffany’s*) and *Days of Wine and Roses*, to the iconic television theme for *Peter Gunn* (the first entirely jazz soundtrack for television, winner of the first-ever Grammy Award in 1959, and later used in the 1980 film *The Blues Brothers*).
Mancini’s music is far more than mere background themes: they are true milestones in the global jazz repertoire. Bringing these immortal pieces to life with brilliance is the Shipyard Big Band, a historic orchestral ensemble that for twenty years has been exploring the sounds of swing and modern jazz with passion and virtuosity.
Serving as the common thread linking one piece to the next is the voice and wit of Stefano Dongetti who, with his tried-and-tested stylistic touch blending satire, irony and subtle humour, guides the audience on a journey of discovery through the composer’s life and the most intriguing anecdotes linked to his films and the Hollywood of that era.
