13th Slovenian kamishibai festival

The Lojze Bratuž Cultural Center, in collaboration with the Girasole Family Association and the Slovenian Kamishibai Association, invites you to the 13th SLOVENIAN KAMISHIBAI FESTIVAL 2025

Kamishibai (from Japanese: paper theater, storytelling with illustrations) has spread to Slovenia! Every two years, the national festival of this new theater genre moves to a different location. Last year and this year, it will be held in Gorizia as part of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia. Over three days (September 5, 6, and 7), the best Slovenian kamishibai performers, selected from across Slovenia and beyond by Igor Cvetko, founder of Slovenian kamishibai, will perform.

Among the 33 performers, a professional committee consisting of Nataša Konc Lorenzutti (actress, poet, and writer), Ana Zavadlav (painter and illustrator), and Jasmin Kovic (director) will select the best performers. An exhibition of kamishibai will also be open during this time, and on Sunday there will be a round table discussion on the topic of "Kamishibai and Communication and Cultures" and a presentation of the project/catalogue "Stories on Paper".

Kamišibaj, as a simple but highly expressive medium, is in line with the values and goals of the European Capital of Culture: accessible art, an emphasis on storytelling, the promotion of cultural heritage, community involvement, and the encouragement of intercultural dialogue. It can therefore be a powerful tool for the ECoC programme, both for artists and audiences.
