Inspired by the story of Margot Wölk, who confessed at the end of her life to having been Hitler's food taster in her youth, the novel tells the story of Rosa Sauer, forced along with nine other women to eat the meals intended for the Führer. Every day, three times a day, she is forced to brush with death to ensure that the food is not poisoned. In a climate of coercion, these ten women become friends and rivals, they ally and betray each other, they are afraid and fall in love, and despite it all, they never stop desiring, because to desire means to remain human.
