Aquileia Film Festival 2026 – 17th edition

The 17th edition of the Aquileia Film Festival kicks off from July 28th to August 4th, 2026: cinema, archaeology, and experts will take turns on stage for six evenings in a packed program.

The international archaeological film festival is organized by the Aquileia Foundation with Archeologia Viva and Firenze Archeofilm.

Three girls. A river. A bond that will change their destinies. The lives of Aurora, Bianca, and Viola, so different, intertwine like the branches of the Tagliamento River in an Italy facing the new century, caught between modernity and tradition, between the toil of work and the desire for emancipation. Together, they will form a secret women's society, the Violets of Udine, dedicated to protecting and supporting women in an era where being free is a revolutionary act.

Journalist and writer. She contributes to the cultural pages of the Messaggero Veneto newspaper and creates and hosts radio programs for the RAI Friuli Venezia Giulia branch. She created and directs the Incentro tourist guide series, published by Odòs. She is the author of the literary character Agata Est. Il tempo delle viole (The Time of Violets) is her first novel, published by Newton Compton.

What remains
The documentary is a journey through three communities in Friuli Venezia Giulia, united by a living and shared ritual heritage. Between the Natisone Valleys, Valcellina, and Carnia, the film intertwines the preparation and performance of three rituals, each different in origin and form, yet profoundly similar in their collective meaning. "What Remains" stems from a desire to observe what endures over time, far removed from any form of nostalgia. The rituals depicted in the film are not testimonies of an immobile past, but living practices, continually renewed by those who preserve and practice them in the present.
