BODY ART FOR PEACE The artist Francesca Chialà dances the colors of Peace with the children of Gorizia and Nova Gorica in the heart of the European Capital of Culture. On Tuesday 16 July at 9:30 am, in Piazza Transalpina, a spectacular collective Body Art Performance will officially inaugurate the mosaic-sculpture “The Vitruvian Woman” by the artist, performer and sociologist Francesca Chialà.

The event will be opened by the Mayor of Gorizia, Rodolfo Ziberna, as part of GO! 2025 – European Capital of Culture, which celebrates the cooperation between Gorizia and Nova Gorica.

In the heart of the square that once served as a border and is now a symbol of dialogue, Francesca Chialà will lead the children in a participatory and poetic action: a gesture of peace, art, and shared freedom, where the body becomes language and color becomes a message.

Four large canvases, each 40 meters long, will be arranged around the circle of the floor mosaic, forming a square that symbolically dialogues with the sculpture “The Vitruvian Woman,” which is also inscribed within a circle and square according to Leonardo's sacred geometry.

Children of all ages and their families are invited to participate.

Francesca Chialà has involved numerous public and private summer camps in Italy and Slovenia to transform the square into a vibrant space for relationships and creativity.

The young participants will paint with their hands and feet, moved by the music and the energy of the gesture. The seven colors of Peace, a universal symbol of harmony and hope, will be used.

During the performance, Francesca Chialà will perform the yoga tree pose in the center of the square, evoking the same position depicted in the sculpture "The Vitruvian Woman": a symbol of balance between earth and sky, masculine and feminine, rootedness and momentum.

It will be a moment of profound connection between body, art, and landscape: a symbolic act of unity, awareness, and rebirth. This collective action is also a powerful message of remembrance and commitment: a special thought will go out to the children of Gaza and all the young lives shattered or scarred by conflict.

Art becomes a secular prayer, a kind gesture, and a universal voice to affirm the right to childhood, peace, and beauty.

In the center of Transalpina Square is the Mosaic of New Europe: a marble circle crossed by the old border line, engraved with the inscription "New Europe" in Italian and Slovenian.

Built on the site of a former wall, it is now a tangible symbol of unity between peoples and dialogue between cultures. Around this circle, the four canvases of the Performance will form a square of color and movement, a visual tribute to the "Vitruvian Woman."

The circle represents heaven and spiritual perfection; the square represents earth and the sense of limitation. Their geometric harmony reminds us that rootedness and idealistic striving can coexist, and that it is precisely in the balance between the two that the meaning of transformation lies.

The performance is promoted by the artistic movement “La FESTA delle 7 ARTI,” founded by Chialà to intertwine beauty and civic engagement, spirituality and concrete impact, art and rights.

Founded on the Gift Economy, all its actions are public, free, and open, because art—in its vision—is a common good that must be accessible to all.

His performances have regenerated spaces and relationships in Italy and abroad: along the Tiber, in the suburbs, with orphaned children in Vietnam, in the struggle to protect the Venice Lagoon.

In 2025, her artistic journey will also reach Japan, at the Osaka EXPO, where she was invited by UNESCO in Paris to represent the connection between creativity, sustainability, and human rights. Come and leave your mark on July 16th.
